What you need to know about electrical equipment
Do you want to know everything there is to know about electricity? Well, to start, you should know what the basic parts of any electrical design are and how they work. Think about how the great Egyptian pyramids were built with just rocks. The rocks were nothing on their own. But when they were put together with care, they made such grand structures!
You need to know about the most important parts of an electrical system and how they work together to make modern electrical systems that are amazing.
14 Basic Electrical tool and equipment are:
- Resistors
- Capacitors
- Light Emitting Diode (LED)
- Transistors
- Inductors
- Integrated Circuit (IC)
- Circuit Breaker
- Fuse
- Switch
- Transformer
- Electrical Wires & Power Cables
- Battery
- Relay
- Motor
Resistors
The resistor is the very first thing you should know about. As the name suggests, it is pretty easy to think that a resistor will stop electricity from flowing through it, and you would be right. A resistor is needed whenever the flow of electricity needs to be controlled at a certain level.
Here are two examples that show what a resistor does better. In both situations, we'll turn on an LED:
Scenario 1 – Without Resistor
- On one side, you have the power source.
- On the other end, you connect the LED.
- The bulb gets the full force of the electricity.
- This causes the LED to work too hard and eventually burn out completely.
Scenario 2 – With Resistor
- On one side, you have the power source.
- This is hooked up to a resistor.
- The LED bulb is then hooked up to the resistor.
- Through the resistor and into the bulb, electricity flows.
- You can change how much electricity needs to go to the bulb. So, the LED won't get too much power and won't burn out.
Capacitors
If a resistor is like a cushion that controls how electricity flows, then a capacitor is like a small rechargeable battery that stores small amounts of charge. At the same time, capacitors do two things:
- Alternating current, or AC, can flow through them.
- They don't let DC, which stands for Direct Current, flow through them.
in this way, they can make almost any circuit stable. Most capacitors fall into one of two categories:
- Polarized capacitors have a positive end and a negative end.
- Capacitors that are not polarized do not have any positive or negative ends.
Light Emitting Diode (LED)
LEDs were briefly mentioned when "Resistors" was being talked about. LEDs are the same as bulbs, but they are very reliable. You can find them on almost every appliance in your home that has a light that tells you something. A typical LED bulb can last for many years without showing any signs of dying.
They are used to show the state of the current at any point in a circuit because they are so reliable. With these light-based indicators, it is easier to do important things like check the output voltage or current of a circuit.
Transistors
In electrical circuits, the resistors, capacitors, and LEDs are the simple parts. Now, let's talk about the transistor, which is the first part that is complicated. For example, transistors are used to make things like amplifiers, which are very complicated electrical systems. Think of a switch to understand how a transistor works. A simple switch has two states: "on" and "off." The position of the switch, which is changed by hand, controls these. A transistor is a switch that is more advanced and has more than one output state. You can't change these states by hand like you can with a switch. The only way to change the state of a transistor is to run electricity through it. By changing the amount of current that flows through the transistor, you can change the state of the output to get the results you want.
Inductors
Just like transistors, inductors are hard to understand. Like transistors, inductors are used to make electrical systems that are very complicated. Inductors, on the other hand, are basically just coils of wire that are wrapped around other parts. They are used to separate things.
Of all the Electrical equipment in Dubai on this page, inductors are probably the ones you won't use for simple circuits. Still, depending on the project you are working on, inductors may be part of the design of the circuit.
Integrated Circuit (IC)
Integrated circuits are Electrical equipment in the UAE that combine or "integrate" a lot of different Electrical tools and equipment such as the ones listed above. One IC can work like a transistor, while another IC can work like a resistor.
An integrated circuit, or IC, is like a ready-made chip that you can use to finish your project without having to use a lot of transistors or capacitors. As you move from using basic components to using integrated circuits, you will find that it is almost always easier to use ICs for your whole project than to use individual components.
Circuit Breaker
A circuit breaker is a mechanical switch that keeps your Electrical equipment in Dubai safe from power surges and short circuits. It can automatically tell when something is wrong and stops the harmful current from going to the sockets. Every circuit breaker has two coils: one that closes the circuit and the other that makes the circuit break.
A circuit breaker has two different kinds of contacts. One is a moving connection that makes and breaks the circuit by using stored energy. The moving contact is held in place by a spring when the moving contact is closed.
Fuse
Circuit breaker's best friend is the fuse, which helps the breaker protect electrical equipment in the UAE from too much power. When a power surge hits a circuit, the power surge heats up the wire, which then breaks. This stops the flow of the current.
It comes in different kinds that can handle different levels of current. A standard fuse is made up of four main parts: the metal-fuse elements, the support body, the contacts, and the connection. The metal-fuse elements can be made of
alloy, copper, aluminum, zinc,
silver, etc.
Switch
Yes! Everyone understands what a switch is! Let's talk about what it means in technical terms. A
switch is a device whose main jobs are to break the current, stop the current, and move the current from one conductor to another. For this task, the "On and off" mechanism is used.
There are four main types of switches:
- Single Pole Single Throw (SPST)
- Single Pole Double Throw (SPDT)
- Double Pole Single Throw (DPST)
- Double Pole Double Throw (DPDT)
In a switch, different technologies are used to make it work, such as:
- Rocker switches
- Slide switches
- Pushbutton switches
- Rotary switches
Transformer
It is a piece of electrical equipment in the UAE that changes the amount of AC current. It is made up of two coils of wire that are joined by a core of iron. The transformer changes the electric energy from one circuit to another by making two windings interact with each other. It also changes the power between circuits with different voltage levels without changing the frequency.
On the market, you can find both small and big transformers.
Transformers come in two main types:
- The secondary coil of a step-up transformer has more turns than the primary coil.
- Transformer that steps down – You thought right! It has more turns on the primary coil than on the secondary coil.
Electrical Wires & Power Cables
Without wires and cables, it's almost impossible to build something that uses electricity. Through cables, electrical wires connect a device to the power source. Every device, like switches, sockets, LEDs, or anything else, needs wires to be set up.
An electrical power cable is a group of electrical wires that are bundled together or run next to each other to send and receive electricity. When you can't use wires in the air, you can use electrical cables to send high voltage electricity. A cable is made up of three main parts: the conductor, the sheath, and the dielectric.
Battery
Through their electrochemical cells, batteries provide electricity. Each cell has an anode (-), a cathode (+), and something called an electrolyte. It works because the cells make electrons flow through a chemical reaction. This is called the electrochemical reaction. In simple terms, batteries are portable containers that store electrical potential energy.
Your Xbox controller and cell phone would have to be plugged into a charger all day if it weren't for batteries. A battery has two kinds of cells: primary cells that can be charged and secondary cells that can't be charged.
Relay
In the early days of long-distance telegraphs, relays were used as amplifiers. Relay has changed over time to serve more needs in technology and the telephone exchange. They are electromechanical switches that turn the circuit on and off with low-power signals.
The most important parts are the armature, the
spring, the electromagnet, and the electrical contacts. Inside a
relay, there are no electric connections; instead, there are magnetic ones.
Motor
Motors convert electrical energy into mechanical energy. It is made up of a stator, a conduit box, an eye bolt, a rotor, a housing, and bearings. When it comes to getting energy, motors are better than pneumatic and
hydraulic systems. Because of this, it is the most common part in all electrical equipment tools.
On the market, there are many kinds of motors. They include:
- Motors with AC inductance
- Brushless permanent magnet synchronous motor
- Stepper motor
- DC motors
- Switched reluctance motor
